Therapeutic Counselling
For Neurodivergent Individuals
Improve confidence and self-esteem.
Welcome!
Being neurodivergent, for some, can result in experiencing a hit to their confidence and self-esteem which in turn results in feeling stuck or too overwhelmed to change things up and grow as an individual.
If this describes you, then congratulations on taking the first step in changing that situation.
If you work with me then I believe that I can help you to experience the following:
Higher levels of confidence,
Lower feelings of overwhelm,
Reduce anxiety,
Develop strategies for utilising your strengths whilst managing your weaknesses,
To see the value of your individuality and use it to unlock life affirming opportunities.
Let me tell you a bit about me.
Hello, I am John Hicks, a Cambridgeshire based Therapeutic Counsellor.
I help my clients to better understand themselves, become more skilful at managing emotional difficulty and be more confident in their everyday lives.
I have been working with neurodivergent clients for almost 15 years as a coach and more recently as a therapeutic counsellor.
I believe that it is my neurodiversity that helps me to gently connect with clients and then help them to unlock their potential.
I know what it has felt like for me to experience the emotional issues that come from being neurodivergent which is why I can sit with you on your journey exploring how Neurodiversity impacts on you and what you want to do about it.
I absolutely believe that you have what it takes to create positive change, even if you don’t believe that for yourself right now.

I started my counselling practise to provide my clients with the space to explore themselves better, gain perspective and have the choice in how they want to live their lives. Why? Well to cut a long story short, I have been in the client’s chair and I have shone a spotlight upon what I felt was holding me back and I know the transformational difference that counselling makes to one’s life.

In general terms I see my clients grow in confidence, reduce anxiety and feel empowered to unlock their potential. It all boils down to improving one’s own personal resilience when navigating life’s ups and downs.

I have lived in Cambridgeshire all my life and have worked as a scientist, a senior manager and as an activist for creating awareness around the emotional difficulties associated with being Neurodiverse. Everything I have done in my career has essentially been motivated by working collaboratively and respectfully with the aim of empowering others to address need and bring about the best outcomes.
I have been in private practise since 2021 and I work with young people and adults.
